Classic Car Extravaganza

By Steve Coyne

Back in the summer of 2007, I happened to attend the local Classic Car Extravaganza. I'm still left wondering what the Extra was.. or the Ganza for that matter, but nonetheless it was an enjoyable morning.

The event was held on Ryde seafront with fair weather and had a very good turnout, so I was very happy i had chosen to arrive early and try to avoid too many of the spectators.

Cars from all era's managed to turn out in good numbers and filled the whole of the seafront along what is commonly called the Canoe Lake/Boating Lake, though personally i prefer to call it Swan Lake as I'm sure most the tourists do and for the blindingly obvious fact that it is full of Swans and not Canoes.. Rant Over

A lot of pleasure was had taking shots of the various cars and especially getting up close and personal with some of the more finer detail on the grills and logos that adorn these classical beauties. But it has to be said there are an awful lot odd spectators at these sort of events and without doubt more than a few rude ones as well.

I lost count of the times i was framing a shot only for some....spectator !! to walk straight in front and stand there - like they are waiting for a taxi or something, i rather think its more likely to be the next command from the brain to arrive by second post.

Still it was not long before i had a dozen good shots in the bag and i was able to just relax and try something a bit more artistic, which for me is always the most enjoyable part of taking pictures.

By mid afternoon i had a bag full of good shots and after some time very careful editing (mostly removing 'spectators' i have completed a set of 12 prints which i shall be releasing as Limited Edition Collectors sets, through my online store in the early part of 2008 most likely February.

The event is held annually and held over two days - first in Newport and the moving to Ryde for the second day, which is much more sensible with far more room for the vintage vehicles.

I shall indeed be returning to the event this year 2008.

Although i may also be wearing a new custom tee shirt.. on the back will be written in large letters - "I'm a photographer.." and on the front..

well ill leave that up to you... ;)
